So my understanding without knowing Octane very well is that Redshift renders faster but it takes longer to achieve the results you want because of the complexity of the settings. But then last year in a podcast he said that he went back to Octane because of the ease of use and ability to get good results faster, and that he only used RS for certain scenarios such as heavier scenes or the need to render out an animation faster. The reason I chose RS is based on Chad Ashly's article in motionographer a few years back where he compared the top engines and he seemed to favor Redshift. I didn't renew my Redshift license this month because I'm considering switching to Octane. Sorry if there are so many of these posts but I was just curious about the differences now that we're in 2022 and that both engines have matured quite a bit since I first got into GPU rendering.
